In the past he has held research and teaching positions at the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam ( <a href=\"https:\/\/research.vu.nl\/en\/persons\/leonidas-oikonomakis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Marie Sklodowska Curie Postdoctoral Individual Fellowshi<\/a>p),\u00a0 the Department of Anthropology , Durham University (COFUND Marie Curie Junior Research Fellow), the Department of Sociology, University of Crete (adj. lecturer)\u00a0 and\u00a0 the Hellenic Open University (lecturer at MA program\u00a0 Social and Solidarity Economy\u00a0 and BA in Spanish Language and Culture (teaching Latin American History) .\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">His research and teaching focuses on\u00a0Latin American politics, social movements, autonomy, revolutions,\u00a0electoral politics, development, and the commons. He is also a rapper with hip-hop\u00a0formation\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/socialwaste.org\/\">Social Waste<\/a>,\u00a0and used to be a member of the editorial collective of\u00a0ROAR Magazine.\u00a0He\u00a0is the author of the\u00a0 monograph\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.palgrave.com\/gp\/book\/9783319902029\">Political Strategies and Social Movements in Latin America: The\u00a0Zapatistas and Bolivian Cocaleros\u00a0<\/a>(Palgrave- Latin American Studies\u00a0 Series), and has published articles\u00a0in international peer-reviewed journals and chapters in edited\u00a0volumes on social movements in Latin America and Southern Europe. His latest book was also translated in Greek under the title \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/akybernitespoliteies.org\/shop\/politiki\/san-ton-zapata-kai-ton-tse-oi-zapatistas-kai-oi-volivianoi-cocaleros\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u03a3\u03b1\u03bd \u03c4\u03bf \u0396\u03b1\u03c0\u03ac\u03c4\u03b1 \u03ba\u03b1\u03b9 \u03c4\u03bf\u03bd \u03a4\u03c3\u03b5; \u039f\u03b9 \u0396\u03b1\u03c0\u03b1\u03c4\u03af\u03c3\u03c4\u03b1\u03c2 \u03ba\u03b1\u03b9 \u03bf\u03b9 \u0392\u03bf\u03bb\u03b9\u03b2\u03b9\u03ac\u03bd\u03bf\u03b9 \u03ba\u03bf\u03ba\u03b1\u03bb\u03ad\u03c1\u03bf\u03c2\u201d<\/a>\u00a0and was published in 2020 by Akyvernites Politeies publishing cooperative (currently in 3nd edition). He has also published an ethnographic novel (together with Dimitris Dalakoglou), called <a href=\"https:\/\/biblionet.gr\/%CF%83%CE%BA%CE%BF%CF%85%CF%81%CE%B9%CE%B5%CF%82-569773\">Skouries<\/a>, illustrated by Apostolis -Kotsifas-Blackbird -Ioannou.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Besides his native Greek and English, his articles have been translated into French, Urdu, Hindi, Arabic, Bahasa Indonesia, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Bosnian, Dutch, Slovak and Turkish.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">He has\u00a0appeared for interviews on\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=5mmBRXcwT1Q\">Russia Today<\/a><\/em>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/radiostudent.si\/dru%C5%BEba\/odprti-termin\/dolgi-pohod-zapatistov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">RadioStudent Slovenia<\/a>,\u00a0 on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=EIOVw0WOZzM&amp;t=403s\">Channel 9\u00a0\u00a0Bolivia<\/a>, and on\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pri.org\/person\/leonidas-oikonomakis\">PRI The World<\/a><\/em>, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/athenslivegr\/meet-the-teacher-who-raps-against-fascism-f08625b471f1\">Medium<\/a>\u00a0while he regularly comments for several national and international publications like\u00a0<em>BBC, CNBC,\u00a0<\/em>M<em>oscow News, Kommersant, Vice News,\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>Buzzfeed<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Leonidas\u00a0is happy to respond to media requests to speak about current Latin American and Greek politics.
